“I’ve learned my lesson!” Ollie Robinson on the backfoot after mouthful from Ricky Ponting and Matthew Hayden regarding pacer’s abusive send-off to Usman Khawaja
While Robinson justified his act at first by citing Ricky Ponting’s example and how the former Australia captain used to sledge anyone and everyone, the Englishman accepted he went overboard with his celebration.

England pacer Ollie Robinson said he has learned his lesson on how to behave on the field after he was criticized heavily for the pacer’s abusive send-off to Usman Khawaja in the first Ashes Test. While Robinson justified his act at first by citing Ricky Ponting’s example and how the former Australia captain used to sledge anyone and everyone, the Englishman accepted he went overboard with his celebration.
In his column for Wisden.com, Robinson talked about the celebration after Khawaja’s wicket at length. The pacer said that he has nothing against the Aussie and it was just in the heat of the moment.
“I didn’t realize the Ussie [Usman Khawaja] send-off was such a big thing until I got off the pitch to find my phone blowing up with mates texting me and it all going off. I just got caught up in the moment…It was nothing against Ussie, it was just one of those things, I got caught up in the moment and let myself go,” wrote Robinson.
“I think in those big moments I sometimes forget where I am. And there’s a thousand cameras on me! I’m not normally an explicit sort of person when I get a wicket, it’s normally just a big roar, or my eyes go a bit crazy. Anyway, I’ve definitely learned my lesson!” he further added.

Ollie Robinson accepts England are playing for more than wins, for creating memories

The right-arm pacer who kickstarted his Test career with some impressive spells is thrilled with the brand of cricket England is playing at the moment. Ollie Robinson has echoed his captain’s thoughts about making Test cricket entertaining and has accepted that England are paying for more than just wins.
“It’s about more than just winning a Test match. Because at the end of the day, stats are forgotten. It’s more than that. We’re trying to create memories and be that team that everyone still speaks about in 20-30 years’ time,” Robinson wrote in the column.
The pacer also assured that England will come harder at Australia when the second Test kicks off at Lord’s on 28 June.
