Ahead of his first competition of this season at the Diamond League in Doha on Thursday (May 4), Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra was asked whether he will ever try to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) post his javelin career.
“Cricket is very popular in India,” the Olympic gold medallist said during a press conference ahead of his game, which is on May 5. “Indian bowlers are also very good. They have a fast arm. In javelin too, we need a fast arm. So I think it is a natural talent in India. This is a plus point for us,” he asserted.
He was comparing cricket with javelin throw to show that the latter sport did not become famous just because of his winning the Olympics gold. He then joked that if he is allowed to bowl like the way he throws javelin, he can join the IPL.
“It is tough because cricket is a physical sport, but we will see,” Chopra said when asked whether he will ever play in the IPL. “If they permit me to bowl like I throw the javelin, I can join cricket,” Chopra joked.
