Umran Malik endured a difficult spell against the Delhi Capitals last night. The fast bowler ended with figures of 0/52 in his 4 overs. The pacer also gave away 19 runs in the final over of the first innings where he bowled a 157km/h fireball only for the ball to go for a boundary. The Jammu and Kashmir player now holds the record for the second-fastest ball ever bowled in IPL history. 

However, while his pace has often done him good this season, with 15 wickets in 10 games, Malik has often gone for runs too, missing his lines in order to get extra pace on the ball. Former India fast bowler, RP Singh also criticised the youngster for this.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, he said, “You can see that he’s perhaps in the preparation zone for the big stage, but isn’t properly prepared yet. He was tried in the power play where he got a good drubbing and the same happened in the slog overs. So you need to improve a lot. Pace isn’t everything. You are a fast bowler with pace, which is a great thing but you also need some skill and use of the mind to go with that – you should know where to bowl against which batter” 

He further added, “And you learn that with experience, can’t do it after just two-three games, need a lot of time. Umran Malik is on the right path but this was a massive reality check that when you miss even by a small margin, you get a substantial drubbing” 

A poor display from all SRH bowlers, DC managed to put up a massive 208 onboard thanks to Warner and Powell’s power hitting. Even on the batting front, SRH eventually fell short as the top order crippled and Pooran could only get them to 186 towards the end.
