As the Pakistan Cricket Team exited the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, fans were present to greet the players and the staff. Among the fans, one of Pakistan’s most recognizable fans was present. It was Mohammad Bashir, fondly called Bashir Chacha.
Hours after he welcomed the Pakistan team, reports came out of him being detained and questioned by the Police. But later in an interview with SportStar, Bashir Chaha confirmed the reports were false and he was never detained.
“I was never detained for questioning in the airport while I was there to receive the Pakistan team. It was just that they asked me not to wave the Pakistan flag due to security issues,” confirmed Bashir Chacha. He is currently residing in Hyderabad with relatives.
Bashir Chacha is one of MS Dhoni’s biggest fans
Bashir Chacha has always been open about his love for ex-Indian captain, MS Dhoni. The wicket-keeper batsman had arranged for his fan a ticket for the 2011 ICC ODI World Cup Semi Final clash between India and Pakistan.
Bashir has expressed his desire to visit Ranchi and meet Dhoni in his house. He has traveled across borders to see MS Dhoni play. He has received abuses from Pakistani fans for supporting Dhoni, but Bashir says it doesn’t affect him.
He has met the Indian legends twice, once in 2018 during the Asia Cup and in the 2019 ODI World Cup. Till his retirement, Dhoni was always ready to help the 65 year old. In 2018, he had invited Bashir to his room and gifted him his bat and jersey. Bashir’s favorite moment however, was when Suresh Raina had handed him sunglasses during the 2015 ICC ODI World Cup, saying MS Dhoni had sent it for him.
