There is no doubt that Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is a world-class player. But Pakistan batter Abid Ali believes Babar’s form has slumped a bit and to help him get back on track, according to Ali, people should start criticizing the skipper.
Since the 2022 Asia Cup, Babar couldn’t improve his performance which saw a decline in his average. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, though Pakistan reached the final, Babar was at the receiving end due to his below-par performances. In seven games, all he could contribute were a mere 124 runs.
That is why Ali, because of the fast-approaching ICC ODI World Cup, suggested the critics to continue slamming Babar so that he improves his game well before the iconic tournament. The 35-year-old, however, claimed himself to be a fan of Babar’s batting and said that he enjoys watching him play.
“It’s good, Babar Azam should be criticized. When he is criticized, Allah blesses him in a way that he scores without any stopping. Babar has played with me; he is my junior- now he is a world-class player,” Ali told Cricket Pakistan.
Babar Azam and Co. reached the top position in the ODI rankings

Though Babar Azam has found it a bit difficult to amass runs since the 2022 Asia Cup, he has done a fabulous job in recent times. In the recently concluded Pakistan-Afghanistan ODI series, Babar scored two half-centuries, playing an important role in helping his side clean-sweep Afghanistan.
After Pakistan’s triumph, they reached the top spot of the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings by replacing Australia. Pakistan defeated New Zealand 2-1 this January and also swept the West Indies and Netherlands last year. They then again outclassed the Kiwis in April in a five-match ODI series by 4-1. This was for the first time, Pakistan reached No.1 rankings in ODIs under Babar’s captaincy.
