Pakistani cricket journalist Zainab Abbas was in India to cover the 2023 Cricket World Cup. However, reports emerged that she was deported from India over old anti-India and Hinduphobic tweets.

This happened after a Delhi-based lawyer Vineet Jindal shared the complaint on X (formerly Twitter) and requested some top authorities to remove Abbas from the list of presenters. Vineet, as per reports, said those tweets were posted by the username Zainablovesrk around nine years ago and the username has been changed to ZAbbas Official. The veracity of the tweets cannot be confirmed.

Even before the start of the World Cup, several screenshots of Zainablovesrk went viral all over the micro-blogging platform. The screenshots went viral after she announced she would be arriving in India to cover the World Cup.

Complaint against @ZAbbasOfficial filed by Advocate & Social Activist @vineetJindal19 with cyber cell Delhi Police. Requesting to lodge FIR under section 152A, 295, 506, 121 IPC and sec67 IT Act for making derogatory remarks for Hindu faith and beliefs and for anti- Bharat statements,” wrote advocate Vineet Jindal on X.

Zainab must be removed from list of presenters on immediate basis from ICC World Cup by @ICC and @BCCI .Anti Bharat people are not welcome in Bharat,” he added. He also tagged Union Minister Anurag Thakur and BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

On Monday, lawyer Vineet Jindal gave an update on the case, saying she was reportedly deported after his complaint. She left India from Hyderabad where she was set to cover Pakistan’s matches.

Pakistani media channel SamaTV also confirmed that Abbas safely landed in Dubai, while Dawn reported that Abbas was not deported but left India due to personal reasons. Amid these reports, it’s important to say that the International Cricket Council (ICC) is yet to confirm Zainab Abbas’ deportation. Nevertheless, fans from both India and Pakistan heavily criticized the journalists after reading the derogatory tweets and also some fans did not believe these reports, in short, social media is filled with mixed reactions.
