Pakistani pacer Shahnawaz Dahani is set to be penalized by the Pakistani Cricket Board due to his outburst after he wasn’t selected for the Pakistan squad for Asia Cup. Dahani will not be a part of the Pakistan Team that will take part in the Asia Cup or be in the team that faces Afghanistan. He last featured for Pakistan in their tour of New Zealand in 2022, where they took part in a Tri-Series with New Zealand and Bangladesh. Dahani also recently played for Pakistan A in the ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023.
Ex-Pakistani player Rashid Latif had posted the stats of Pakistani pacers, to which Dahani quoted with a picture of his Espncricinfo profile page and highlighted his List A stats captioning the post “Seems as if Dahani is not a Pakistani Pacer??”.
Dahani later posted “Not even a single journalist or cricket analyst even dared to ask questions or show these stats to selectors.” He also added the hashtag “#Ripsportsjournalism”. Rashid Latif replied to the post, saying “My mistake Dahani, I will make new (post)”. Dahani has now deleted these posts.
PCB has taken cognizance of the matter and has said that strict action against Dahani will be initiated.
Fans divided over Shahnawaz Dahani’s outburst
Plenty of fans shared polarising opinions, with many of them saying that Dahani was wrong to criticize the selection and that he hadn’t done enough to be selected. The other side said that Dahani had the right to express his frustrations about not being selected.
Although Dahani has taken 56 wickets in 31 games, he has only played two ODIs for Pakistan against The Netherlands. In those two ODIs, he’s only managed to pick up a single wicket. In the recent Emerging Asia Cup, Dahani picked up a fifer in his first game against Nepal A, but in the next 2 games against India A and UAE A, he failed to pick up any wickets, leading to him getting dropped from the side in the Semi-Finals and Finals.
Pakistan will play a 3-match series against Afghanistan before the Asia Cup begins. They will then travel to India to participate in the 2023 ODI Men’s World Cup.
