“I don’t think anyone can replicate him” – Parthiv Patel believes Ravindra Jadeja shouldn’t be compared to Dhoni in captaincy

Ravindra Jadeja

Former Chennai Super Kings batsman, Parthiv Patel had his say on the on going captaincy debacle around the Chennai Super Kings camp. CSK just before the season had announced that Ravindra Jadeja would lead CSK this season instead of MS Dhoni. However, after a poor start to the season, Jadeja gave up captaincy as it was too pressuring for him and started affecting his own performances.

MS Dhoni eventually took back the captaincy. But even the 40 year old could not save the sinking ship as Chennai Super Kings eventually got eliminated from the tournament. The defending champions could only manage 5 wins in 13 games and have one final game against Rajasthan Royals remaining.

‘People were searching for Dhoni in Ravindra Jadeja’ – Parthiv Patel on CSK Captaincy

Speaking to Cricbuzz, the former keeper-batsman said, “What Dhoni has done, I don’t think anyone would be able to replicate it. There should be no comparisons with anyone. This is what happened with Jadeja during his captaincy stint and was one of the biggest reasons (why he was under greater pressure). People were looking for Dhoni in Jadeja. Whoever comes in next as the captain, this mistake should not be repeated.”

He further added, “As an expert or as a CSK team member, it should be clear for everyone – Dhoni is Dhoni. No one can be like him. They will have to let that go. For Chennai, yes it would be a bigger challenge (when MSD is gone). Dhoni’s strength has always been spontaneous decisions that he takes on the ground. That wasn’t happening this time (during Jadeja’s stint). The role of the support staff will become very important in how they rebuild the team.”

With speculation growing over who could be captain next year of Chennai, Ravindra Jadeja will be hopeful that he gets a second chance to redeem himself. While CSK could look for other options inside and outside the CSK Camp.
