The 5th Day of the 2nd Ashes Test saw one of the most controversial dismissals in recent times. English wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow was run-out in the most bizarre possible way. Alex Carey and Australia were criticized by many for their attempt but Australian skipper Pat Cummins saw nothing wrong with it.
When England’s captain Ben Stokes was asked to talk about the incident, he said had he been in place of Pat Cummins, he would’ve taken back the appeal of the wicket. Pat Cummins’ response to this was a mere “Okay”, further bringing out Australia’s firm stance in agreement with their behavior.
During the press conference after day 5, a reporter asked Cummins whether he believed in the spirit of cricket, to which he said “Yes.” What was interesting was what came after that.
Pat Cummins leaves the reporters in splits.

The reporter followed up on his previous question and asked Cummins, “Do you think after Baistow’s dismissal today, which was within the letter of the law, just putting it out there, are we in danger of seeing Mankads or under-arm bowling later in this series?”
Pat Cummins was quick on his feet to come up with a witty answer and nailed the job. He said, “Ah.. I mean, depends how flat the wickets get. It might be an option to turn to.” Cummins’ hilarious yet witty answer left everyone in splits.
