Australia captain Pat Cummins is cool as a cucumber when it comes to handling questions from the press. In the Ashes series so far, Cummins has nailed the answers to tricky questions asked of him. While he effortlessly trolled England for preparing flat wickets when queried about potential underarm bowling from the Aussies, Cummins shut down a reporter with his classy response ahead of the third Ashes Test

As the captains of both teams attended the pre-match press conference ahead of the Headingley Test, an English reporter tried to poke Cummins with a question regarding Australia not trying to sush the English crowd by withdrawing the appeal against Jonny Bairstow

The reporter referred to the sandpaper incident and asked Cummins if Australia thought about covering that by withdrawing the appeal against Bairstow. Cummins was calm as he answered how people are still hung over things that happened somewhere around 50 years ago (referring to the underarm bowling question).

“There has been talk this week about the underarm incident. I mean that was the 1970s. How far do you want to go back? We’ve all moved on. As I said the other day, the team did nothing wrong. So, we’re all comfortable,” said Cummins. When further poked by the reporter, Cummins said the aim of playing cricket is not to sush people. “I don’t think that’s the aim of playing cricket,” said the Australia captain.

The Headingley Test is expected to be a thrilling one. As Pat Cummins-led Australia lead the series 2-0, England will want to win this game at any cost and stay alive in the series. The hosts will draw inspiration from the 2019 episode when Ben Stokes pulled off a miraculous chase for England. He was at it yet again in the second Test but could not pull it off.

Also, after so much talk around the Jonny Bairstow runout, the English crowd is expected to come hard at the Aussies at Headingley. It will be a fun game for not just the two teams involved but also for the cricketing fraternity.
