The Baguiati Police in Kolkata arrested four people, including a woman, on Saturday night for honey-trapping, blackmailing and extorting money from a U-19 Delhi cricketer. The cricketer came to Kolkata for a few matches at the end of October and was staying in Salt Lake.
On November 2, the cricketer visited the Baguiati police station to file his complaint. Initially, he said that he was mugged while walking down the street. He stated that his phone, a golden chain was snatched away and he was forced to transfer Rs 60,000 from his Paytm account.
However, as the police officers felt that the cricketer was hiding something, they asked him to tell the truth and be assured. They later learned that the cricketer met a Baguiati-based girl via a dating app. The girl requested to meet as he was in Kolkata, which the cricketer accepted.
On November 2, he went to a flat in Baguiati’s apartment to meet her. However, when he entered the flat, the girl along with her three companions locked the door and robbed the cricketer. The matter didn’t end there as they forced him to remove all the clothes before clicking on pictures. The gang threatened to leak those nudes publicly if he didn’t pay them money.
To avoid any further escalation, the victim transferred money via his Paytm account. However, when he reached home, he started receiving calls demanding ransom money. In the end, he decided to take help from the police, who did well to arrest the accused.

The four accused arrested in the case have been identified as Rishabh Chanda, Subhonkar Biswas, Rina Majumdar and Shiva Singh. However, the police refused to name the cricketer to save his reputation. While the police are investigating if the gang was involved in similar cases before, they also confirmed that they believe the mastermind behind the racket is still untapped.
“Four people have been arrested. Shiva Singh and Subhonkar Biswar of Santosh Pally, Rishabh Chandra and Rina Majumdar of Jardabagan near Vidyasagar Sporting Club – all stay in the Baguiati police station area,” a senior officer said.
