“Poor Fellow Virat”- Danish Kaneria opines how Virat Kohli should’ve left IPL and played more international cricket

Virat Kohli and Danish Kaneria

Former Pakistan player Danish Kaneria has expressed his views on how Virat Kohli’s absence from international cricket has made his stale and that he should have left IPL and played more international matches.

India will clash against its arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, August 28 in Dubai in the Asia Cup 2022 and many are expecting Kohli to return back to form. He has been struggling to score runs in the past and in IPL also, he got dismissed multiple times on ducks including golden ducks. He was last seen in action when India were touring England just after the IPL. He then given a one month break and didn’t take part in the West Indies and Zimbabwe tour.

Since Kohli is out of form, it’ll be interesting to watch him play in India’s first match of the tournament against Pakistan. Kohli’s numbers have been good so far against the Men in Green.

“Poor fellow Virat. During 2021 T20 World Cup, he was out of his form and team was also collapsing,” said Kaneria in an exclusive interview with CricketNext.com.

“Virat Kohli should have left half of IPL because he cannot miss international cricket. In IPL also he was out of form, and he was continuously playing and playing.

“Sometimes, two things happen, it’s like there’s a stale on your form. You do best to your strengths but there is a stale because there is continuous amount of cricket. Day and night cricket and then travelling as well. There is bubble, there is Covid, you can’t go out and can’t refreshen yourself, so cricket is different these days,” he added.

Danish Kaneria then talked about the England tour where Kohli failed to make an impact. He expressed that Kohli should have at least played some cricket to get back in form and now that he is out of international cricket for sometime, nobody knows how he’ll come back. However, he then praised him and said that big players come back with a big bang.

“We saw him in England where his form was struggling. He didn’t make runs. So, he should have played some county cricket in England, at least some hundred ball game or something like that to bring back his form. Now, he is out of international cricket, without form so we don’t know how he will come back.

However, he said, “Big players come with a big bang. So, I am hoping he comes back with big signature, his trademark of getting runs.”

He then talked about how KL Rahul is also coming from a big injury which might be a problem for India too if he fails to score runs. He praised Sanju Samson and opined that instead of Rahul, Samson should have given the opportunity to play and Rahul should have given rest so he can focus on T20 World Cup which is to be played later this year in Australia.
