Shubman Gill is being touted by many as the next big thing in Indian cricket. But his Test numbers are not very great yet, and that’s what former India player Aakash Chopra pointed out after India’s Test defeat in the first match in South Africa.

At the SuperSport Park in Centurion, India faced their defeat at the hands of the Proteas by an innings and 32 runs with the match being concluded within three days. Gill performed poorly in the first innings, getting out for two runs after playing 12 deliveries.

In the second innings, he played 37 balls to score 26 runs. Chopra, on his YouTube channel, said that if Gill wants to go the extra mile, he has to perform in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries.

I am talking about Shubman Gill here because he is referred to as the Prince of Indian cricket. For the Prince to become King, he has to walk the tight rope and improve his numbers in SENA countries.
Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

He added:

There is a lot of difference in his numbers in Asia and in SENA countries. Of course, a very young career, but you have to conquer SENA countries to become the King.

Shubman Gill’s record in SENA countries

Shubman Gill made his Test debut in December 2020 and since then he has played 19 matches and scored 994 runs at an average of 31.06. On Asian soil, Gill averages 39.25 but has witnessed a drop in averages in SENA countries.

Outside Aisa, he has played seven Tests and collected 375 runs with the highest of a 91-run knock against Australia. His last scores in red-ball cricket are six, 10, 29*, two, and 26.

South Africa are 1-0 in the two-match Test series. The last Test will be played on January 3 in Cape Town. India have lost another chance of securing Test series victory in the Rainbow Nation.
