On the 2nd day of the Rajkot Test, Ravichandran Ashwin picked up his much awaited 500th Test wicket. Coming into the series, he needed nine wickets to reach the milestone and took five innings to get it. 

Sadly on the same day he needed to rush back to Chennai due to a family emergency, missing the 3rd day but returned to play the 4th day. After the completion of the Test match, his wife put up a post congratulating him for the achievement.

She wrote about how he chased the 500th wicket, but also spoke about what occurred between the 500 and 501 wicket, calling it one of the longest 48 hours in their lives. She also joked on how she gifted sweets to family after he couldn’t get his 500th wicket in Vizag

Ravi Shastri reveals Jay Shah organized charter flight for Ravichandran Ashwin 

During the 4th day, Ravichandran Ashwin returned to Rajkot to play. Although he didn’t bat, he bowled six overs and picked up the wicket of Tom Hartley. During the commentary, Ravi Shastri revealed what BCCI Secretary Jay Shah did for Ashwin.

He revealed that Shah organized a charter plane for Ashwin to return back home. Ashwin used the same plane to return to Rajkot to play in the fourth day of the Test match as well. 

Rohit Sharma spoke about Ashwin’s temporary withdrawal from the Test match, saying it was not easy to lose the most experienced bowler in between a match. But he agreed Ashwin needed to leave as what he was doing was right, commenting that family comes first.
