India batter Prithvi Shaw was involved in a fight in the early hours in Mumbai and eight people have allegedly attacked him and his friend. The reason for the attack was Shaw’s declining for a selfie. Mumbai police have registered a case against the eight people.

Oshiwara Police has registered a case against eight persons over an alleged attack on the car of a friend of Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw after Shaw refused to take a selfie for the second time with two people,” Mumbai Police was quoted as saying by ANI. Two of the eight accused are identified as influencer Sapna Gill and Shobit Thakur.

As per reports, Shaw went to a five-star hotel in Santacruz for dinner with his friend and flatmate Ashish Yadav, who runs a cafe. Some people came to their table and asked for a selfie.

The 23-year-old clicked the selfie with the two. But after some time, they returned and asked for another selfie which Shaw declined, saying that he came to the hotel to eat food and doesn’t want to be disturbed. But when the two fans still insisted on taking the selfies, Shaw’s friend called the hotel manager and the latter asked the accused to leave the hotel.

When Shaw and his friend came out of the car after dinner, the accused were waiting for them outside the hotel with baseball bats. They broke the rear windows of their car so Shaw had to go in another car.

The accused chased Shaw and his friend when the car was stopped near Jodeshwari’s Lotus petrol pump, Gill allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from them and threatened to file a false case if not given the money. After this incident, Shaw and Yadav filed a complaint to the Oshiwara Police Station and an investigation is underway.

Gill’s lawyer accused Shaw of being drunk and assaulting the influencer with a wooden bat. “Sapna Gill and her friend (Thakur) were fans of Prithvi Shaw and had requested him for a selfie. He, however, refused and was drunk at the time and started abusing and manhandling them,” Gill’s lawyer Ali Kqashif Khan Deshmukh claimed.

Shaw has so far played 12 matches for India- five Tests, six ODIs, and a lone T20I. As per reports, he has been sidelined due to disciplinary reasons. He last appeared for India back in July 2021. After a series of brilliant knocks in domestic cricket, including a triple century in the Ranji Trophy, Shaw made a comeback for the T20I series against New Zealand but he did not get a chance to play.
