India’s out-of-favor batter Prithvi Shaw had a rather bizarre end to his inning in his debut match for Northamptonshire in the ongoing One-Day Cup. Shaw was out hit wicket as the batter fell onto the stumps after playing a shot. Shaw had to take help from the opposition players to get up. 

Prithvi Shaw recently signed up a contract with County team Northamptonshire. While Shaw set the stage ablaze in an intra-squad game, scoring 65 off 39 balls, the Indian batter was dismissed for 34 in his debut match against Gloucestershire.

As Gloucestershire bowler Paul van Meekeren bowled a bouncer to Shaw, the batter got in an awkward position where he lost sight of the ball. While Shaw somehow managed to put the bat to the ball, he could not handle his weight after the shot and fell to the ground. In the process, Shaw also unknowingly kicked his stumps, meaning he was out hit wicket.

Prithvi Shaw struggling to redeem his old self

Once considered one of the next future superstars and counted in the same league as Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw is finding it hard to redeem his old self. The right-handed opening batter possesses great skills but Shaw has not been able to do justice to his talent. Despite multiple opportunities, the batter has disappointed. His getting involved in controversies has not helped Shaw’s cause either. 

The Mumbai cricketer plates for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. While Shaw had some really good outings in the first couple of seasons, his graph has gone down significantly. In IPL 2023, Shaw could only manage 106 runs in 8 matches he played. 

Now, with Team India in the transition phase, especially in the shortest format, Shaw would like to make a candidature for himself. It is to be seen how much his county stint with Northamptonshire helps.
