Talking about the match, Gujarat won the toss and decided to bat first. Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill scored 21 and 9 respectively. It was Kagiso Rabada who from the starting kept restricting the Titans.

If it wasn’t for Sai Sudarshan’s maiden half-century knock, the Titans’ situation would have been a miserable one. The top batsmen as well as the middle orders failed to add runs. Sudarshan played an unbeaten knock of 64 off 50 balls to lift Gujarat Titans’ target to 143/8. Kagiso Rabada sent back 4 GT batsmen.

PBKS responded with Shikhar Dhawan’s excellent 60-run knock in 53 balls after smashing 8 fours and a six. He was supported by Bhanuka Rajapaksa who scored 40 in 28 balls. Punjab reached the target in just 17 overs.

But in the 12th over, Lockie Ferguson darted a length ball around off and got it to skid in sharply. Rajapaksa tried to heave it over the leg side but missed and got rapped on the pads. Rajapaksa didn’t even bother to take DRS after the umpire’s finger went up.

Then came Liam Livingstone with his explosive hitting. In the 17th over of bowler Mohammad Shami, Livingstone himself scored a massive 28 runs. He started the over by smashing a six which was followed by two sixes and a four. By running for two runs after that, he again smacked a four. In just 10 balls, he scored 30 runs with 2 fours and 3 sixes.

Table toppers Gujarat Titans tasted their 2nd defeat in 10 matches in this season. The first came from Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad.
