India off-spinner R Ashwin was in no mood to take any sort of moral policing as a senior journalist tried to lecture the Indian veteran just because he felt Australia’s Alex Carey was well within his rights to runout Jonny Bairstow in the second Ashes Test. Ashwin hit back at the journalist, Rajdeep Sardesai as the latter asked how he (Ashwin) would feel after getting out in such a fashion.
The 36-year-old was quick to react as Ashwin said he would surely be disappointed for getting out in such a manner but with himself. Notably, after Ashwin stood in solidarity with Australia over the Jonny Bairstow controversial runout, Sardesai asked how would those people supporting Australia feel if they were dismissed in such a manner.
“Sorry to bang on about this but I do love the game.. To my friend @ashwinravi99 and all those who believe that Johnny Bairstow was fairly OUT .. I have a simple Qs: would you be happy if you were given out in that way? That’s the real test. Do unto others what you would do to yourself!” the journalist asked.
To this, Ashwin simply replied, “I would be disappointed, very disappointed, in fact, gutted with myself for getting out like that.”
Fans also call out Rajdeep Sardesai for his bizarre tweet
Not only R Ashwin but fans were also left bewildered at this bizarre tweet from the senior journalist. Quite a few fans mocked Rajdeep Sardesai for desiring too much and wanting everything to go in his favor. Former India cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan also took a dig at the journalist.
“As an opposition team, you try to identify the mistake of the batter to get him out, in this case it was not a technical mistake but a common sense mistake, which the opposition used it to their advantage. Simple. Srikkanth was out in that fashion on his debut against England at Mumbai. Batters are never happy whichever way they get out,” tweeted Laxman.

Notably, R Ashwin has been pretty vocal about the talk around the ‘spirit of cricket’ and has insisted that the game should be played within the laws and not the spirit.
