India’s star off-spinner R Ashwin is back to playing Test cricket after missing out on the World Test Championship (WTC) Final (which is still beyond everyone’s understanding) and he is also back to doing what he does best- taking wickets. As India took on the West Indies in the first Test of the two-match series, Ashwin dismissed both Windies openers.
The seasoned off-spinner first took out Tagenarine Chanderpaul as Ashwin clean-bowled the Windies’ batter. Chanderpaul played for the angle but the ball straightened a tad and hit the stumps. The off-spinner’s second scalp came in the form of the West Indies skipper, Kraig Brathwaite.
While the two dismissals were regulation for Ashwin, the off-spinner got his name etched in history books with that Chanderpaul dismissal. As Ashwin got Tagenarine, he became the first Indian bowler to dismiss a father-son duo. For those unversed, Tagenarine Chanderpual is Shivnarine Chanderpual’s son and Ashwin has now dismissed both batters.
Ashwin also became only the third bowler to dismiss both Chanderpuals. Prior to the Indian spinner, Mitchell Starc and Simon Harmer had done it.
