There’s a widely popular belief that New Zealand youngster Rachin Ravindra‘s name came from the combination of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid‘s name. The rumors say Ravindra’s parents were Tendulkar and Dravid fans, hence his son’s name having ‘Ra’ from Rahul and ‘chin’ from Sachin.

However, Ravindra’s father, Ravi Krishnamurthy, recently debunked all the rumors surrounding his son’s name. He said his wife had suggested the name because it was easy to spell, and they did not deliberate much while naming their son. Krishnamurthy also clarified that they had no intention of grooming their son to a cricketer and that they had no idea at first that Rachin was a mix of Sachin and Rahul.

The name sounded good, was easy to spell, and was short, so we decided to go with it. It was only some years later that we realized the name was a mix of Rahul and Sachin's names. He wasn't named with the intention of making our child a cricketer or anything of the sort.
Ravi Krishnamurthy told The Print.

And though his parents did not intentionally name him after Sachin Tendulkar or Rahul Dravid, he has already surpassed Tendulkar by becoming the youngest player with the most runs in an edition of the World Cup before turning 25. In nine matches, Ravindra has scored 565 runs and is also the third-highest run scorer in the current World Cup.

In his World Cup debut match itself, he scored his century, an unbeaten 123-run knock against England. His next two tons came against Australia (116) and Pakistan (108). Apart from the two hundreds, he has scored two fifties as well. He will next play against India in the first semifinal on Wednesday (November 15).
