The conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup also brought an end to Rahul Dravid‘s responsibility as Team India’s head coach. His contract ended right after the final between India and Australia.

And though The Wall revealed at the post-match press conference that he had not pondered over his future as India’s head coach, sources have confirmed NDTV that Dravid has decided to not extend his contract. The report said that his former teammate VVS Laxman will take up the role.

Laxman will be India’s head coach during the five-match T20I series against Australia, starting today (November 23). Laxman is also the current chief of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Under Dravid, India lost two ICC World Cup finals- the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia and the ODI World Cup final against the same team. Under his tutelage, India won the 2023 Asia Cup by beating Sri Lanka in the final. He replaced Ravi Shastri as India’s head coach in 2021 after India’s exit at the T20 World Cup in UAE.

Rahul Dravid is likely to make his return to the IPL

As per a report by TOI, Rahul Dravid can also make his comeback to the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the head coach. He is reportedly in talks with a franchise for a two-year contract.

Dravid has previously coached Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). He started mentoring the Pink Jersey in 2014 and after a two-year stint, he joined DC as their head coach in 2016 and 2017.

Due to a conflict of interest, he parted ways with DC and coached India A and U-19 teams till 2019. In 2019, he became the chief of NCA.
