India Head Coach Rahul Dravid might step down from his role after the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup. As Dravid’s contract expires after the World Cup, the former India cricketer is in no mood to renew it and hence will not continue in the position. The reason Rahul Dravid is not willing to continue as India’s Head Coach is personal.

A report in the media has claimed that Dravid is not too comfortable with touring abroad and wants to spend more time with his family. Rahul Dravid took over as India’s Head Coach in November 2021 after Ravi Shastri stepped down from the position. It took a lot of convincing from then BCCI President Sourav Ganguly to get Dravid ready for the job.

Now, as Dravid contract’s expires in November, the 50-year-old is not interested in renewing it even if India go on to lift the ODI World Cup. An Insidesport report has claimed that traveling back and forth has been troublesome for Dravid and hence he wants to step down from the position and go back to his settled life in Bangalore.

“It has been a rocky journey for him. Rahul likes a settled life and that is why he did not want to take up the job initially. He has had to manage his family as well as travel with the team on back-to-back long tours. He will take a call on his future even if India win the World Cup,” a BCCI source was quoted saying by InsideSport.

Talking about Rahul Dravid’s coaching stint, it has been hot and cold. While India dominated in bilaterals under Dravid and Rohit Sharma, the team failed to deliver in three big tournaments- the 2022 Asia Cup, the 2022 T20 World Cup, and the 2023 World Test Championship Final. India also lost to Bangladesh last year (in ODIs).

Out of the eight away series under Dravid, India lost four while winning four against Bangladesh (Tests), England (T20Is), England (ODIs), and West Indies (ODIs). Now, as the ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place in October-November and is set to be Dravid’s swansong, it will be interesting to see if he ends his stint on high or with disappointment.
