Rashid Khan dedicated the team’s win over England to the victims of the earthquakes in Afghanistan. Afghanistan pulled off a stunning 69-run victory over Jos Buttler and company on Sunday (October 15) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
With Rahmanullah Gurbaz‘s 80, Ikram Akikhil’s 58, and contributions from other batters, Afghanistan posted 284 on the scoreboard. Rashid, with three boundaries, scored 23 runs. In response, England could score just 215 as the Afghan bowlers wrapped up the match to produce the first upset in this World Cup. With the ball also, Rashid rocked, with three scalps for 37 runs in nine overs.
After the match, Rashid appeared for a chat with Star Sports broadcasters. He dedicated the team’s win to the earthquake victims and said that cricket is the only source of happiness in Afghanistan.
“Cricket is the only source of happiness in Afghanistan, recently there was an Earthquake, and many lost everything, this will give them some happiness – this is for them,” Rashid said. He said this win would bring a smile to their faces. Three earthquake tremors hit Afghanistan in a week. The first two earthquakes killed more than 3,000 people.

Most of the fans in the stadium were cheering for Afghanistan, including the time when Naveen-ul-Haq dismissed Jos Buttler. It was entirely a different scene because, during India’s match against Afghanistan, fans jeered at him with ‘Kohli, Kohli’ chants, but thanks to the handshake and hug, Naveen became the crowd favorite against England.
