On 7th April, Lucknow SuperGiants hosted Gujarat Titans in the IPL. Winning the toss, the hosts elected to bat first, but scored a poor score on a good batting wicket. Now going to defend a low total of 164, LSG needed a miracle. 

By the 5th over, GT scored 47 runs. In the 4th over, youngster M Siddharth had bowled three no-balls as well and young sensation Mayank Yadav needed to step out thanks to an injury. Luckily for them, Yash Thakur picked up the wicket of GT captain Shubman Gill on the last ball of the powerplay.

As Kane Williamson stepped on, captain KL Rahul brought on Ravi Bishnoi to bowl the 8th ball. On the first ball, Bishnoi bowled a googly, which the Kiwi captain blocked with ease. The very ball he bowled was a traditional leg-break ball, which Williamson tried down the ground. Unfortunately the ball popped up. Bishnoi jumped to his right, diving to take a magnificent catch to dismiss Williamson. 

Yash Thakur takes maiden fifer as GT are bundled out for 130 

Yash Thakur made his IPL debut for LSG in 2023 and picked up 13 wickets. Now a regular for the team, he has picked up his maiden IPL fifer to help his team into the top-three of the points table.

The first wicket he picked up was of GT captain Shubman Gill, who was bowled after playing the wrong line. His 2nd wicket was of Viay Shankar, who edged the ball to KL Rahul after going to play a bouncer. Just three deliveries later he got Rashid Khan, who gave a catch to Deepak Hooda. 

In the final over of the match, Thakur took the wickets of Rahul Tewatia and Noor Ahmed to complete his five-wicket haul. This is the first fifer of the 2024 IPL, with the next best bowling figures being Mustafizur Rahman’s 4/29. For his performance, he was awarded the Player of the Match trophy.
