Hardik Pandya has been subjected to hate and abuse by Mumbai Indians fans after he became Mumbai Indians captain. The captain has been booed at every game he has played this season and it looks to be getting worse after each match.

Recently, Hardik Pandya was booed during MI’s first match at home. Even presenter Sanjay Manjrekar had to request the crowd to “behave”. Many have come in support of the all-rounder and now the former Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri, has asked fans to stop abusing Pandya.

You have supported the team over the years. In just 2-3 matches, they won't be a bad team. They are 5-time champions, after all, they have a new captain. Just be patient, you know the bloke you're getting after is a human being like you. At the end of the day, he has to sleep in the night. So just think about it, be calm.

Shastri also had advice for Pandya on how to deal with the hate. He told him to be calm, to ignore the hate and to just focus on his game. Shastri also said that with a couple of wins, the fans will change their mind. So far, MI have lost every game they have played.

Ravi Shastri says MI owners are entitled to appoint whoever they want as captain

Ever since Rohit Sharma was removed as Mumbai Indians captain, the owners of the team have come under criticism. The fans were unhappy with the way the team treated Sharma as well, but Ravi Shastri believes the owners can do whatever they want.

See, at the end of the day, this is not an Indian cricket team that is playing. This is franchise cricket. They have paid top dollar, they are the bosses. It's their entitlement as to who they want as captain.

Shastri also has his say on the Sharma-Pandya captaincy saga. He said the team management could have had better communication with the fans to explain why Pandya was appointed. He further explained that the all-rounder was appointed for the future and were looking to build the team with him in mind.
