Amid massive backlash on Twitter after India’s T20I series defeat in West Indies, veteran India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin again backed Team India. Hardik Pandya and Co. lost the five-match T20I series by 3-2 and invited criticism from the Indian cricket fraternity.
This was for the first time India faced defeat in a bilateral series against West Indies in 17 years. It was for the first time in 25 months India lost a T20I series. Also, for the first time, India lost three matches in a T20I series.
After the match, the critics wasted no time blasting the side and especially the decisions made by stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya. His decision to bat first on a slow pitch in Florida in the final as well as his bowling decisions were heavily criticized. But Ashwin said that it’s easy to criticize the team on social media without analyzing the situation.
“It is very easy to criticize the team on social media since they lost to a team that didn’t qualify for the last T20 World Cup in West Indies,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Ravichandran Ashwin says a team full of youngsters will face challenges in West Indies
Ashwin pointed out that a team full of youngsters will face challenges going to West Indies. The 36-year-old pointed out that the local players of a country know best the condition of the stadium.
“I am not talking about backing, supporting, or anything. All of these are secondary. As a youngster, if you are going to West Indies, there will be some challenges,” he added. He also cited his own examples that when he was a rookie player when he went to West Indies, England, and Australia, he faced challenges but also learned about little things.
