“Petition to rename Mankad to Ashwin”- Did Ravichandran Ashwin avoid Mankading David Miller? Twitter goes bonkers

Ravichandran Ashwin attempts to Mankad David Miller

Ravichandran Ashwin would have triggered the “Spirit of Cricket” debate when he attempted to Mankad David Miller in the 18th over when India locked horns with South Africa on Sunday [October 30] at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Miller’s assault in the last overs steered his team to a five-wicket victory to clinch two crucial.

India skipper Rohit Sharma handed the ball to Ashwin in the 18th over, but Miller smacked him for two back-to-back sixes. Ashwin, an advocate for the infamous mode of dismissal- Mankading, attempted to dismiss Miller by this method. But it seemed as if he warned Miller as the latter left the crease before the delivery was bowled. Also, it looked as if Miller quickly touched the crease line with his bat the moment he saw Ashwin stopping for Mankading.

Watch the video below:

Ashwin’s history with Mankading goes back to 2019 when he Mankaded Jos Buttler in the Indian Premier League. But the former always defended himself, saying the batters steal a yard or so by leaving the crease even before the bowler releases the ball.

Meanwhile, India batted first and put 133/ in their courtesy of Suryakumar Yadav‘s 68 runs off 40 balls (with six boundaries and three sixes). Lungi Ndigi was the man to break India’s back when he dismissed KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya.

Despite Arshdeep Singh’s early scalps during the Proteas’ batting, Miller and Aiden Markram stitched a partnership when Proteas were tethering at 24/3 in the 6th over. Markram scored 52 runs off 41 balls (with six fours and a six) to restore the momentum to their side.

Miller went on to play a cautious knock before unleashing in the last overs to guide his team to a crucial win by five wickets. He smashed four boundaries and three maximums to score an unbeaten 59 runs off 46 deliveries.

Coming to the points table, India stand second with four points from three games, while Proteas, after beating Men in Blue, have clinched five points and have been promoted to the top position.
