While doing commentary during the Australia-Pakistan Test series, former England captain Michael Vaughan called India an underachieving side after the team’s Test defeat in South Africa. Ravichandran Ashwin, the veteran Indian Test all-rounder, played down the comments by the former skipper on his YouTube channel.

Notably, Vaughan previously praised India for winning a Test in Australia after Pakistan lost the Test there, saying that only the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has the tools to compete in Australia. But after India’s defeat in South Africa, he said India, despite having resources, failed to win ultimate matches. Ashwin acknowledged that India have not won ICC trophies for years but called his side one of the best Test teams.

Yes, we haven't won ICC trophies for years. We call ourselves the powerhouses of the game. But the Test team has been one of the best traveling teams in the vicinity.

He added:

After he said that, so many experts from our own country started questioning if India is an underachieving team. Frankly, it made me laugh.

South Africa’s Makhaya Ntini and Ravichandran Ashwin used to play together for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The two former teammates reunited after a long time, during the two-match Test series between the two teams.

Ashwin was not a part of the second Test in Cape Town, but he entertained his fans off the field by making the African legend sing ‘Kabhi Mere Dil Mein, Khayal Aaata Hain.’ Ntini’s hilarious Hindi made Ashwin chuckle.
