Veteran India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin heaved a sigh of relief when Mitchell Marsh dropped a mistimed shot of Virat Kohli. After India’s nervy win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday (October 8), Ashwin revealed his condition during the tense moment.
The Aussies huffed and puffed to 200 after choosing to bat first. Target was easy enough for India to win without much effort but Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood changed the momentum within two overs by sending three batters to the dugout for two runs on the scoreboard.
Kohli and KL Rahul emerged as the heroes for India and their partnership will be remembered for a long time time. They held their nerves to bat responsibly and steadily inched closer to the target. India almost lost their fourth wicket when they were at 20/3 but thanks to Marsh’s dropped catch, India did not lose another wicket for a long time. Kohli used lifeline to score 85 runs. Ashwin narrated the superstition during that moment.
“When I saw Virat Kohli’s ball go up in the air, I ran outside the dressing room. I literally ran all the way outside. I didn’t know what to do. I was like, ‘Just wake me up when it’s all over’. It was that sort of a feeling,” Ashwin said at the post-match presentation. “I ran back into the dressing room and the crowd erupted. I stayed in the same place for the entire game,” he added.

Will Ravichandran Ashwin play against Afghanistan in Delhi?
On the spin-friendly Chennai pitch, Ravindra Jadeja tormented the Aussies by dismissing three batters. Along with him, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin played their roles.
While Kuldeep picked up two wickets, Ashwin bagged one wicket, of Cameron Green. In his full quota of 10 overs, the 37-year-old conceded only 34 runs and he was also the second most economical bowler after Jadeja who gave away just 28 runs in his 10 overs.
However, whether Indian management will include him in the second match against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi is uncertain. Judging from the match between South Africa and Sri Lanka where the former posted 400-plus total on the board, the pitch looks completely flat.
