India’s recent experiments drew nothing but criticism from Indian fans. The reason behind this is the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup. Around two months are left; so, many claimed, that instead of focusing to improve and strengthen the potential squad, India shouldn’t do some meaningless experiments. On Twitter, even #SackRovid was trending after India decided to rest two senior players- Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
But the current Indian players, when asked about the experiments, have defended the Rahul Dravid-led management, saying India won’t have time to try out different players during the upcoming Asia Cup as well as the ODI World Cup. Now, veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin voiced his opinions, saying the moment India lost the second ODI against West Indies, there was massive outrage on Twitter.
“Some of them were perplexed at how we lost to a team that didn’t even qualify for the World Cup. Many people think that India’s only job in international cricket is to win World Cup. The main reason why we consider ourselves favorites to win the World Cup is because of the IPL,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Ravichandran Ashwin says ODI matches are stressful
Ashwin then explained how an ODI match is quite stressful because it needs around two days for the body to recover. He pointed out that the first two matches of the West Indies ODI series were played in a gap of 24 hours, meaning, a player’s body is more prone to injuries if such is the schedule.
The 36-year-old wants the fans to understand that there are many players who are at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, recovering from injuries and there are chances that they could not make it to the World Cup. And that’s why Ashwin backed Dravid and Rohit and explained how such experiments are needed despite having less time to prepare themselves for the World Cup.
