Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik thinks it’s too soon to include Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal into the ODI set up for the 2023 ODI World Cup. The showpiece event is just five months away as India will stage it in October-November.

That is why, Karthik urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to not include him in the event which is entirely different from the views expressed by many fans and cricket experts owing to Jaiswal’s breathtaking performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). But at the same time, Karthik suggested the selectors fast-track the 21-year-old to the T20 setup.

I don’t think Yashasvi needs to be fast-tracked to the T20I setup,” Karthik told the ICC. “He’s a young boy. He needs to be fast-tracked into the T20I setup. I think he needs to be one of the frontrunners for the T20 World Cup happening next year as there are only a limited amount of ODIs left to be played prior to this World Cup.”

Karthik wants the BCCI to give Jaiswal an extended run when given an opportunity. “Just back him out there in the T20 setup, he needs to be there now. And by the time this World Cup finishes, he will be ready to play from there on in ODIs and T20s,” he added.

The young gun has impressed many with his scintillating knocks for Pink Jersey, giving the team a much-needed start. In 14 matches, he has smashed 625 runs at an impressive average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.61. In this season only, the Mumbai batter hammered his maiden century- a 124-run knock. Overall, in 37 matches, Jaiswal has amassed 1172 runs at a strike rate of 148.73.

Meanwhile, RR couldn’t emulate last season’s campaign as they had rather a mixed season. They ended up in the fifth position on the points table with seven wins and seven defeats from 14 matches with 14 points. Last year, they reached the final but their dream to lift their second IPL trophy was shattered by Gujarat Titans.
