On 29th March, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) became the first team to lose at home in the 2024 IPL. The previous nine matches had all been won by home teams, but Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) broke the streak. This also continues KKR’s unbeaten run at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, not losing at the venue since 2015 to RCB.
Electing to bowl first, KKR restricted RCB to 182 on a flat Chinnaswamy pitch. Virat Kohli did score 83*, but took 59 balls to score it. Cameron Green scored 33 off 21 and Glenn Maxwell scored 28 off 19. Dinesh Karthik (20 off 8) started attacking toward the end of the match.
The KKR batters chased down the score with ease. Phil Salt and Sunil Narine began an incredible opening partnership, which saw the two hit a combined seven sixes and four boundaries. Narine was the first to fall, not before scoring 47 off 22. Salt scored 30 off 20 but lost his wicket to Vijaykumar Vyshak.
Venkatesh Iyer continued the onslaught, as he scored a fifty off 29 balls. Unfortunately he lost his wicket the very next ball. Shreyas Iyer hit 39* runs off 24 as well.
The day was terrible for the RCB bowlers, especially for their pacers. Narine hit Mohammed Siraj for 18 runs in the opening over itself, and then hit Alzarri Joseph for two sixes. Yash Dayal was later hit for 21 runs in the last over of the powerplay. The trio ended up conceding 126 runs in their combined eight overs.
Fans mock RCB as they become the first team to lost at home
After the match which saw RCB become the first team to lose at home, many mocked the hosts. They were not surprised at the fact that RCB had lost, calling them chokers. Virat Kohli was called out by fans for his slow innings.

This win puts KKR 2nd on the table. They are tied on points with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but lower on net run rate. RCB, who are the only team to have played three matches, dropped to sixth position with their NRR dropping to -0.711.
