In the mini-auction for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), Australia stars Mitchell Johnson and Pat Cummins hit the jackpot as they were bought for Rs 24.75 crore and Rs 20.50 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively. Dinesh Karthik, who plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) thinks foreign players make use of the loopholes in the auctions and take away whopping amounts.

Karthik said that these players straight away register their names in the mini-auction instead of the mega-auction, knowing that the franchises have a lot of money, and they have spots to fill. He talked about how the franchises pour a lot of money into the mini-auction to get the services of some world-class fast bowlers.

Last year, it was Cameron Green and Sam Curran. This year it is Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, and it is no fault of theirs. They are just prioritizing their country, their cricket, looking at their bodies.

He added:

But also, it is a bit of there is a tactic about how, instead of coming to the main auction, they let that pass, and go to the mini-auction that happens next year.
