RCB to sport special green jersey against Rajasthan Royals on 23rd April
The franchise has been sporting the green jersey since the 2011 edition.
Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be sporting a special jersey against Rajasthan Royals (RR) as the two teams square off on 23 April at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Bangalore-based franchise will wear their special green jersey which they sport to show their support for the ‘Go Green’ initiative which aims at spreading awareness for a greener environment for future generations.
The franchise announced this news on social media. “RCB’s Green Game will be played on the 23rd of April, against Rajasthan Royals at the Chinnaswamy stadium,” tweeted RCB.
The franchise has been sporting the green jersey since the 2011 edition. The franchise played its first-ever game with green jersey back in the 2011 edition of IPL when they locked horns with now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Bangalore-based franchise wears the green jerseys only during the afternoon matches. The skipper also presents a plant as a memento to the opposition skipper during the toss as part of the special initiative.
RCB fans fear another defeat
While this initiative from one of the top IPL franchises is praiseworthy, RCB fans have been left restless after this announcement. The reason is RCB’s poor record while playing while sporting the green jersey. Ever since the franchise started sporting this jersey every season, it has only won three games- in 2011, 2016, and 2022. Meanwhile, they have lost the rest of the seven matches.
This terrible record of RCB in green jersey tempted fans to share hilarious reactions on social media.
