Veteran journalist Makarand Waingankar has revealed how Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav practiced preparing for the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia. Surprisingly, Yadav is on his first ever tour to Australia with the national team and has been a standout performer.

Taking to Twitter, Waingankar wrote: “I doubt any Mumbai sports journalist watched how Surya Yadav prepared for the WC. He requested Parsi Gymkhana cricket secretary Khodadad for green top bouncy pitch. He would get his side arm specialist & Gymkhana coach former Mumbai opner Vinayak Mane would invite different type of bowlers.”

“In 4-hour practice session, Surya and Vinoo Mane would create match simulations and put more emphasis on perfecting strokes. Surya was all ears when Vinoo spoke. When I watched from the first floor of the pavilion it was a method in madness but the way these guys planned meticulously and executed perfectly it was fantastic.”

Suryakumar Yadav has proven why he is the ICC No.1 ranked T20I batter in the world every time he steps onto the field to bat. It wouldn’t be unfair to say that no batter comes close to him in the shortest format at the moment. He has been scoring runs consistently without compromising strike-rate.

His ability to punish spinners and fast bowlers equally makes him a dangerous batter. Unlike many batters, Yadav has a special gift to hit all round the part, a 360 degree player in a true sense. Speaking of his numbers, the right-handed batter has smashed 225 runs in just 5 innings, averaging 75 and striking an unbelievable rate of 193.96.

It will be interesting to see if Suryakumar can continue his red-hot form in the knockout phase. Team India will next lock horns against England in the second semifinal on Thursday (November 10). The winner of the match will face either New Zealand or Pakistan in the finals next Sunday.
