Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting thinks Virat Kohli is back to his absolute best and his wicket will be the most prized for Australia when the Pat Cummins-led side will square off against Rohit Sharma and Co. on June 7 at The Oval for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final.

Ponting revealed he and Kohli had a good chat a month ago and that the latter talked about being at his absolute best at this moment. “I caught up with Virat about a month ago when we played them in Bangalore,” Ponting said after unveiling Test mace for WTC Final in New Delhi. “And I had a good chat with him about his batting and where he was at and his career. And he said to me then that he actually feels like he’s almost back to his absolute best.

Ponting then warned Australia to not take Kohli lightly by citing the Delhi-born batsman’s sixth IPL century which he slammed against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a virtual knockout match for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, guiding his team to an eight-wicket victory.

“You probably saw that last night, you know, he’s had a very good IPL and I’m sure he’ll be the prize wicket that all the Australians are looking forward to,” Ponting added.

At that same event, Ricky Ponting, as a cricket enthusiast, requested India and Australia to replicate England’s aggressive method to Test cricket during the WTC Final. The ‘Bazball‘ approach, which is the “win-at-all-costs sort of approach” helped England achieve remarkable success, as they won 10 out of 12 Tests, under the guidance of skipper Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum.

I think the cricket-loving world deserves to see an unbelievably good Test match with a result,” Ponting said while praising ‘Bazball’. He wants the two rivals to demonstrate how aggressively Test cricket can be played with a focus toward winning the game.
