‘I doubt if there is another player’ – Ricky Ponting lavishes huge praise on Virat Kohli
Ricky Ponting
Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting is a big admirer of Virat Kohli and has been very vocal about it for a long time now. He loves the way the Indian cricketer bats and maintains sheer dominance over the opponents, no matter what. Unsurprisingly, once again Ponting has showered praise on Kohli.
In a recent interview with journalist Vimal Kumar, Ponting revealed that he had the belief that Kohli would pull off something magical against Pakistan. Notably, the 33-year-old batter scored an unbeaten 82 off just 53 deliveries to take his side over the line and register a memorable win.
“Against Pakistan, with 8 balls, to go, I still had a feeling he will pull something out of the hat. And he did. A little moment like that can have a big impact on the team right throughout the tournament. India haven’t been at their best yet, Virat has been very very good in a couple of games,” Ponting said.
He also stated that if Team India need to progress further in the T20 World Cup 2022, they need Kohli’s form. “He is now the leading run-scorer in the history of T20 World Cup and I think if India are to actually progress and go on to win, they need Virat there to be playing really well,” Pointing added.

Virat Kohli finds his rhythme back
There was speculation at one stage on whether the selectors would drop Virat Kohli for the showpiece event, considering his poor form. However, Ricky Ponting always backed the Indian giant as he felt that a side need big players for big moments, who can bring victory on their own.
“When you come into big events like this, you need your experienced star players to stand at the big moments and make you win. That’s what I said about Virat at the start. We saw that first game against Pakistan. I doubt if there is another player in that side that could have got them down the line at the end,” Ponting continued.

Kohli has already scored three fifties in four games so far in the marquee event and is taking no stops. Team India are in a comfortable position to qualify for the semifinals. They will play their last group stage match against Zimbabwe on Sunday, November 2.
