Proteas batter Rilee Rossouw smashed the first century of T20 World Cup 2022 when he scored 107 runs off 56 runs against Bangladesh on Thursday [October 27] at the SCG in Sydney. With this century, South Africa easily scored a massive total of 205/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock walked out to bat first but the former’s innings was short lived when Taskin Ahmed dismissed him on two runs off six balls.

De Kock a brilliant half-century knock when he scored 63 runs off 38 balls including seven fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 165.79. But in the 15th over, Afif Hossain dismissed him with a slow delivery. De Kock looked to go downtown over long off but it is the longer part of the ground and the timing was not that right; he holed out to the fielder and Soumya Sarkar garbbed the catch.

Tristan Stubbs scored seven runs off seven balls before Shakib Al Hasan dismissed him in the 17th over. Hasan Mahmud then got rid of Aiden Markram in the final over on 10 runs off 11 balls.

But the hero of the match was Rossouw who had scored the first century of the T20 World Cup 2022. He smashed seven fours and eight sixes at an impressive strike rate of 194.64 to score 109 runs off 56 balls. He also stitched 168-run partnership with de Kock.

But in the penultimate over, Shakib saw Rossouw step up and so the former slowed the ball up. Rossouw was through his shot as he looked to go downtown. It went off the top edge and was taken in the cover region by Litton Das. With Rossouw’s knock, the Proteas set a massive target of 206 for Bangladesh. He also scored the fourth fastest century in the history of T20 World Cups.
