Rinku Singh builds hostel for poverty-stricken aspiring cricketers, to bear all expenses

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player Rinku Singh is building a hostel for poverty-stricken aspiring cricketers, worth INR 50 lakhs. Singh who himself has seen the adversaries faced by such young cricketers has decided to help them in their journey despite earning a nominal amount. The Aligarh-born cricketer will bear all the expenses that are required to get the hostel up and runnings.

Notably, Rinku rose to fame last year when he nearly won it for KKR against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a thrilling fixture. The UP cricketer earned more praise and fame when he hit five consecutive sixes against Gujarat Titans’ Yash Dayal to script history. However, Rinku still earns a modest amount while plying trade for KKR and is yet to get his India debut cap. But these things matter little for Singh who had made this commitment during the early days of his career.

“He always wanted to build a hostel for young players, who do not have financial resources to pursue their dreams. As he is financially sound now, he has decided to make it a reality,” Masooduz-Zafar Amini, Rinku’s childhood coach from Aligarh was quoted saying by the New Indian Express. Amini also gave the details of the hostel that is being built by Rinku Singh on the Aligarh Cricket School and Academy campus.

“The work started around three months ago with Rinku watching the progress from close quarters before heading to join his team. The hostel will have 14 rooms and each one can accommodate four trainees. A shed and a pavilion are also being constructed. Separate toilets are also being constructed. These trainees can have food at the canteen being run at the place. It will cost around `50 lakh and the whole expenditure is being borne by Rinku,” added the coach.

The hostel being built by Singh will help budding cricketers in many ways. While it will provide accommodation at a minimal rate, the trainees can get their food at a minimal cost too. Also, they will be able to save the amount spent on travel. Trainees will also be able to avail the gymnasium facility which is being planned.

The hostel will be ready by next month and will be inaugurated by Rinku after the IPL is over. “Almost 90 per cent of the work is done. It will get ready by next month. Rinku will inaugurate it once he is back from the IPL. Hopefully, this facility will make life easier for these youngsters,” signed off the coach.
