Rishabh Pant
Delhi Capitals’ captain and wicketkeeper was ripped off by a former cricketer turned conman, Mrinank Singh. The estimated value of the scam is said to be 1.63 crore. Mrinank on the pretext of reselling luxury watches, bags and jewellery duped Rishabh Pant through a bounced cheque.
Mrinank Singh had earlier also conned a businessman off 6 lakh rupees. However, the Haryana cricketer was caught in Mumbai by Juhu Police and is currently under custody. Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals recently got dumped out of the IPL tournament on their final match of the season as they failed to defeat Mumbai Indians.
Rishabh Pant’s hearing set for July 19 says Pant’s lawyer
As reported by CNBC18, the case by Rishab Pant is that Mrinank approached Pant in 2021 with the prospect of starting a new business where he could get luxury items at reasonable cost. Rishabh Pant had given Mrinank money to buy these items for him. However, after months of no contact, Rishabh Pant issued a legal notice and it was decided that Mrinank would pay the 24 year old 1.63 crore.
However, Mrinank’s cheque bounced due to insufficient funds and overtime with interests, the amount increased to 1.9 crore. Mrinank has also been accused of duping hotels, and many other high net worth individuals across the country. Fans will be hoping that this does not affect Rishabh Pant who already endured a difficult season with Delhi Capitals, individually and with the team. India will need their wicketkeeper batsman to find form again as they prepare for games against England and South Africa.
