Riyan Parag has been one of the most underperforming players in the IPL ever since 2020. Playing as a finisher for Rajasthan Royals (RR), he never put up consistent performances, which led to fans questioning why he was picked. In 2023 he was finally dropped by the team management.

After an impressive domestic season with Assam, Riyan Parag returned to the Royals with a new role. Instead of playing at his usual number 6, he is now batting at number four, in the middle order. His first match at the position saw a well-made 43 off 29, but the best was yet to come.

RR’s clash with Delhi Capitals (DC) saw Parag score an incredible 84* in a winning cause. His innings saw great temperament and some exquisite stroke play. Along with that, he hit Anrich Nortje for 25 runs in the final over. After winning the Player of the Match award for his contributions, he credited his mother for his comeback innings.

(Emotions) They are settled, mom is here, she has seen the struggle, the last 3-4 years. I know what my opinion is about myself. That does not change regardless of whether I get a zero or not. That's a lot to do with the type of season as well, I had a great domestic season and that helps.

Parag stated that someone in the top four needed to bat till the end and he decided to take the responsibility, like Sanju Samson did in the last match. He also revealed that he was on painkillers in the past few days.
