Riyan Parag has turned his social media haters into his admirers. This is a bit surprising since whenever Rajasthan Royals (RR) play their matches, Parag, even if he was not a part of the playing XI, was targeted a lot by trolls, and memes were made to mock him and his below-par performance on the field.
In the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the 21-year-old could make just 78 runs in seven matches. But in the Deodhar Trophy where he played for East Zone, the youngster scored the most runs. In five games, he collected 354 runs, including two centuries and 95 runs in the final. He also scalped 11 wickets.

Parag, in a recent interview, said, that though he can’t tell the the exact conversation, Kohli had told him that something which worked for half a year, cannot be wrong after a few failures. He feels that as the IPL keeps going at a faster rate, some failure makes one question the work ethic and process.
“It was him telling me that ‘take the reality check and accept that it is a bad phase but it doesn’t mean that you need to change the process that has been working for you,” Parag said during an exclusive interview with The Indian Express.
Riyan Parag picked Ravichandran Ashwin’s brain during IPL season
The Assam-born cricketer feels he is a proper all-rounder. He was disappointed because RR did not give him the chance to bowl in the last IPL. But despite that, the presence of veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin helped him learn minute details about bowling. Parag tried to pick his brain on the carrom ball, topspin, and other types.
“I have tried to pick his brains on the carrom ball, how to get more revs on the ball, the topspin, and other stuff, in fact about all the minute details of the bowling. He has been patient with all my queries,” Parag said.
Meanwhile, Parag has played 54 games and could score just 600 runs. And after his exploits in the Deodhar Trophy, he now wants to display his prowess in the next IPL season.
