Rohit Sharma scripts two world records in IND vs WI; surpasses Guptill and Kohli

India skipper Rohit Sharma on Friday, July 29 went past Martin Guptill to become the highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals. He has now 3406 runs. He achieved this milestone during his half-century knock against West Indies in Trinidad. Recently, Guptill (3399) was at the top place; he was just 20 runs ahead of Rohit. After Guptill are Virat Kohli (3308), Paul Stirling (2894), and Aaron Finch (2855).
After being asked to bat first, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav walked out to start the innings. After a 44-run stand between the two, Yadav’ brisk innings came to an end. He fell after his 24 runs off 16 balls off Akeal Hosein’s delivery.
Shreyas Iyer played four balls and soon got dismissed on duck. Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya scored 14 and 1 respectively while Ravindra Jadeja scored 16 runs off 13 balls with two fours.
Rohit played till the last ball of the 15th over when a short length slower ball from Jason Holder dismissed him. He scored 64 runs off 44 balls with seven fours and two sixes. Rohit stood tall to play Holder’s delivery and smashed it hard towards long off but didn’t get the desired distance. Shimron Hetmyer dived brilliantly to catch the ball and dismissed Rohit.
Dinesh Karthik then did his cameo role. He played 19 balls to score an unbeaten 44 runs with four boundaries and two sixes at an impressive strike rate of 215.79. He was supported by Ravichandran Ashwin who scored 13 runs off 10 balls. At the end, India’s score reached a challenging 190/6.

Apart from Martil Guptill, Rohit Sharma has also eclipsed former India captain Virat Kohli in the list of most 50-plus scores in men’s T20Is. Kohli has scored 30 half-centuries and Rohit scored his 31st 50-plus knock in this T2OI.
