Things have not gone right for Rohit Sharma since the 2023 ODI World Cup final. He massively underperformed in the Test series against South Africa. Then went for consecutive ducks against Afghanistan, but did score a century. Now he’s struggling for runs during the Test series against England.

In the first Test, Sharma managed to score 24 and 39*, but in the 2nd Test he got out for 14 in the first innings. He was dismissed by debutant Shoaib Bashir and it was a rather soft dismissal, edging the ball to leg slip.

Unfortunately his troubles have continued as he was bowled for only 17 runs in the 2nd innings. Batting against James Anderson, the bowler bowled the ball moving towards the middle stump. Sharma went to play the line, but the ball seamed away. It beat his outside edge and uprooted the off-stump, bowling him.

Fans call for Rohit Sharma’s retirement

Many fans were frustrated seeing the poor form of the Indian captain. They called for him to retire, saying they were unhappy with his captaincy and batting. One joked how it was easy to dismiss the Indian captain, but many praised James Anderson’s magical delivery.

Sharma has been under a lot of criticism in the past few days. His poor batting form, along with the captaincy in the series has caused him to face the wrath of fans. He was also criticised by fans when he abused his teammates on the field.

After Sharma’s dismissal, Anderson didn’t take time and got the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Shreyas Iyer was the next to depart thanks to a screamer by Ben Stokes. Debutant Rajat Patidar was caught behind after a faint inside-edge off of Rehan Ahmed. By the 35th over, India were 130/4
