Talking to the press on the eve of their biggest game of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, Rohit Sharma gave Indian fans a reason to be happy. Regarding Shubman Gill’s return into the team, the Indian captain said, “Gill is 99% available.”
Shubman Gill sat out India’s first two games after being diagnosed with dengue. He couldn’t travel to Delhi to face Afghanistan as he was hospitalized in Chennai as well. He was recently spotted batting in nets on the 12th and is currently in Ahmedabad, training with the team as well.
In Gill’s absence, Ishan Kishan was opening for the Indian side. In India’s first match against Afghanistan, Kishan had departed for a golden duck, but scored a crucial 47 against Afghanistan. If Gill does return to the team, Kishan could be dropped for the right hander.
Shubman Gill returns to training, set to make World Cup debut
With Rohit Sharma confirming that Shubman Gill is ready to play against Pakistan, Shubman Gill will finally be making his ODI World Cup debut. At the age of 24 he will be playing his first World Cup match against arch-rivals, Pakistan.
Gill was seen finally batting in the nets just a few days after being discharged. He was also photographed participating in the Indian team’s final practice session before they face Pakistan on 14th October. He was also pictured checking the pitch which will be used in the match and shadow batting.
In 2023, Gill scored 1230 runs in 20 innings. He has 5 ODI centuries, with the highest being 208. He has had a dream run in ODIs this year and was predicted to be the highest run scorer in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup by many fans and experts.
