The selectors are keeping a close eye on Rohit Sharma‘s performance in T20Is. The T20 World Cup is around the corner and if Hardik Pandya gets in shape by recovering from the knee injury, Rohit may get himself in hot water if he keeps playing ordinary knocks in the shortest format.
As Pandya is still on the road to recovery, the selectors made Rohit the captain again. The 37-year-old played his first T20I after over a year because the last time he featured in the format was back in the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal against England.

So against Afghanistan, in the first T20I in Mohali, fans expected something from Rohit but he failed to deliver owing to a mix-up with Shubman Gill, as a result of which, the skipper departed for a duck. It was his 32nd duck in international cricket.
In the second match also, Rohit got out for a duck, his second consecutive duck, at Indore’s Holkar Stadium. And though he somehow saved himself from the anger of the fans during the first T20I, he found himself at the receiving end of these fans on social media.
Netizens launch scathing attack on Rohit Sharma after consecutive duck in T20Is
As expected, some fans demanded the sacking of Rohit Sharma as T20I skipper. Some fans opined it’s going to be great for Indian cricket if Rohit doesn’t get the nod for the T20 World Cup because of his inability to deliver with the bat.

India won the toss and opted to bowl first. Afghanistan posted 172 in their 20 overs which India chased down within 16 overs. The hosts now won the series 2-0. The last T20I is on Wednesday (January 17) in Bengaluru. After the T20Is, India will host England for five Test matches, with the first scheduled on January 25th.
