On 7th April, Mumbai Indians finally won their first match of the season by beating Delhi Capitals at home. It was a dominating performance as they scored 234 in the first innings and restricted DC to 205, winning by 29 runs.
After their first win, both Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma posted on their X accounts. The MI captain posted four photos, with the first two being of him and the team, a photo of Tim David and Romario Shepherd and a photo of the Indian captain. He put in the caption: “We’re up and running”.
Meanwhile Sharma had posted for the first time since the start of the IPL, but did not include his captain in a single photo. The photos included him and Shepherd, who hit Anrich Nortje for 32 runs, the young fans in the stadium and him with Ishant Sharma and Rishabh Pant. This difference in tweets could suggest to the fans that things are still cold between Sharma and Pandya.
There have been multiple reports of the two having a rift ever since Pandya was announced as the franchise’s new captain. Some reports even suggest a fractured dressing room, which has been divided into two groups led by the two.
Rohit Sharma joins Virat Kohli in unique group
On 7th April, Rohit Sharma hit 49 runs in 27 balls, missing out on his first half-century of the season. With these 49 runs, he brought up 1000 runs against Delhi Capitals, becoming the 2nd player to do so. The first player to do it was Virat Kohli.
Sharma has taken 34 innings to hit 1026 runs, with an average of 33.1 and a strike rate of 132.9. Kohli on the other hand has taken 27 innings to score 1030 runs. His average is much better, with 51.5, but his SR is in the same range with 133.77.
Sharma has had a pretty good IPL so far, scoring 118 runs in four innings. He averages 29.5 runs, with a strike rate of 171.01. His highest score was the 49 he scored against DC.
