During 2020, the COVID-19 Pandemic shut down sports around the world. This included cricket, with many tours, tournaments and franchise leagues being canceled or postponed. With the free time, many players started live-streaming with many other cricketers. 

Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, was one of those cricketers who was regularly interacting with his teammates. In a live session with Indian off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh, he revealed that the team had a nickname for Hardik Pandya which he despised. While the two were talking about Pandya, Sharma revealed that the nickname for Pandya was “Kawua” (crow).

Sharma hoped Pandya was not watching the live session, revealing that he despised the name. Singh said Pandya shouldn’t mind, as they were all brothers, but Sharma joked that Pandya will soon message him. 

Pandya-Sharma captaincy saga 

Hardik Pandya was announced as the new captain of the Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024. He replaced Rohit Sharma, who captained the team for 11 seasons. The decision to make Pandya captain was followed with a lot of media coverage and controversy as well.

When Pandya joined MI, it was reported that the franchise traded him for ₹15 crore and an extra fee. When he joined, it was reported that he also had a captaincy clause, which said he would join MI only if he was made captain. 

Along with that, there was rumors that claimed Sharma was not informed about the move and found out Pandya replaced him only when the franchise announced it on social media and their website. 

Now, many claim that Sharma and a few key players would be leaving the franchise. They claimed that the Indian captain would leave because of the way he was treated. Also according to many fans, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav would be leaving as they expected to become the next MI captain.
