Virat Kohli was the man behind the 571 runs India put on in their first innings. Shortly after his dismissal after his 186 runs on Day 4, his wife Anushka Sharma took to her Instagram story to declare that Kohli was sick but still he played throughout the day.

Playing through sickness with this composure. Inspiring me always,” Anushka wrote on her Instagram story. Knowing the nature of Twitter fans, they started hailing Kohli for his heroic knock despite being sick. After Day 4’s play, Axar Patel, who was batting along with Kohli, was asked the same but the all-rounder said he wasn’t aware if Kohli was sick or not and that looking at how Kohli batted, it didn’t look like he was batting through sickness.

But after the fourth match ended in a draw, India captain Rohit Sharma was also asked the same question to which he said that Kohli was coughing a bit, but it was not alarming. “Regarding Virat, I don’t think there was any monkey on his back,” Rohit said after the game.

When you’re around a player like that, when you see how they go about their business, you don’t feel that kind of thing going in his head or he’s thinking about the moment. He wants to put up big performances for the team which he has done in the past so many years and wants to do that every time he gets the opportunity to do it for India. I don’t think he is sick; he has just coughing a bit, but I don’t think it’s bad health-wise,” he added.

Kohli, after clinching his Player of the Match award following his magnificent 186-run knock, stated that he has nothing to prove to his critics but he need to justify his presence on the field. The 34-year-old ended his century drought after 1025 days to finally whack his 28th Test hundred in Ahmedabad (which was also his 75th international century). Now Kohli has won at least 10 Player of the Match award in all three formats of the game.

Though Kohli couldn’t register high scores in the first three Tests, he finished the Test series as the second-highest run-scorer with 297 runs. Aussie opener Usman Khawaja, who scored 180 in the fourth Test, finished with 333 runs.
