Going into the third T20I between India and Afghanistan, Rohit Sharma was in the search for runs. He had gone the previous two matches with a duck and needed to score runs. Going into the field with the expectations of scoring at least one run, he was denied a boundary in the first over due to a wrong call.

In the first ball he faced in the innings, Fareed Ahmad bowled the ball onto Sharma’s legs. The captain went for the flick and it went rolling down the ground. While many thought it had edged off Sharma’s bat, the umpire gave it leg byes.

In the next over Sharma realized the boundary was not added to his tally. As umpire Virender Sharma came close to the 36-year-old, Rohit asked him how the umpire gave it leg byes when he had hit it with his bat.

Viru thigh pad diya kya pehla ball, itna bada bat laga hai, ek to idhar do zero ho gaya (Virender how did you give that as leg byes. It hit my bat, I already have two ducks)
Rohit Sharma said during the match

Sharma ended up scoring a century and took India to 212 in 20 overs. He had a marvelous 190-run partnership with Rinku Singh, who himself scored 69 off 39.

Chasing a massive score of 213, Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz gave the team an explosive start. The two stitched up a partnership of 93 runs in 66 balls, with both openers scoring half-centuries. After losing the next two wickets in 10 balls, Gulbadin Naib and Mohammad Nabi began an onslaught on the Indian bowlers.
